Introduction
Since graduating from the Academy of Economic Studies of
Chisinau in 1995 I have had rich and challenging practical
experiences in different fields - private sector, local public
administration and NGO. But the one that had the greatest
impact on me in terms of future career goals was the work
for the Municipality of Chisinau, where I was in charge for
its international relations division.
This activity was highly demanding and useful, since I could
acquire a range of skills in terms of interpersonal relations,
governmental bureaucracy, policy formulation and implementation,
working with interests groups, official correspondence, relations
with media, management of human resources and self-organization.
I had the chance to work together with professionals who have
dedicated their lives to the public service and who were happy
to do so despite the general spirit of distrust in any government
structures that is commonly spread in Republic of Moldova.
The greatest satisfaction however, while working in the public
sector, is to see how your everyday activity improves the
life of your fellow citizens. It is a special feeling to be
part of a team that works for the general public benefit.
These are perhaps some of the elements that have contributed
to my decision to pursue a career in the public service, in
one form or another.
Working in the public service is both exciting, and also
highly demanding. After six years of practical work I became
more ambitious looking forward higher managerial activities
within local, central government, or private organizations,
which provide services and advice to public sector, that would
provide me a broader opportunity to contribute to my countrys
development and prosperity, changing in the same time my activity
focus. From my perspective it was time not only to be sure
about my career preference but also to have clear social values
and strong political and managerial abilities to be able to
achieve those goals, to overcome possible difficulties in
the future and perhaps to bring fresh ideas and tools in the
Moldavian government. This is what I expected to get while
studying in USA.
