Chair: Paul Solano | Committee Member: Robert Warren
position:
Transportation Planner
Delaware Transit Corporation/DART
Wilmington, Del.
Introduction
During my tenure as a graduate research assistant at IPA, the faculty and staff imparted many valuable lessons while encouraging myself and other research assistants to become involved in IPA’s ongoing projects. In many ways IPA’s personal investment in my future, financial support, and commitment to research assistants led me to embark on a transportation career.
Throughout my tenure, I had an active role in several projects. During my first-year, I assisted a statewide training program for local government officials that provided professional training. In addition, I conducted research for a transit accident study to access driver hour safety policies then presented a review of the findings. Most notably as a second-year MPA, I assisted in the planning, logistical preparations, and development of materials for IPA’s 2006 “Building Inter-Metropolitan Rail Corridors” policy forum. These experiences as well as internships with the U.S. Department of State and U.S. Department of Transportation have been incredibly rewarding, conveying insight into the organizational and political dynamics of organizations while providing hands on experience.
Upon receiving an MPA degree with a specialization in Financial Management, I was hired by the Delaware Transit Corporation/DART where I specialize in transportation planning. My responsibilities include planning functions associated with the optimization of existing and new transit services. In particular, I use existing service analysis data and DTC performance criteria to analyze existing service and make recommendations about the allocation of resources. This position at DTC allows me to demonstrate my professional competency while maintaining a commitment to the public sector.
I am a member of the National Association for Black Public Administrators.
