NATIONAL LEADERSHIP SEMINAR
This three-credit course explores effective leadership and policy
making at the national and state levels through the examination
of a significant public policy area. The 2003 course policy-area
focus is on issues related to dealing with domestic security in
light of the 2001 terrorist attacks. Students meet and interact
with elected officials, government staff, private citizens and others
who will play a role in shaping public policy. Through these sessions,
students gain an understanding of the public policy development
process and the roles of the various speakers in determining public
policy. Students also gain insight from the personal histories of
the speakers. The course includes a field trip to Washington, D.C.,
and participation in group projects. Enrollment is limited to 20
and requires instructor permission. Class meetS in 185 Graham Hall
on Tuesday and Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 12 noon.
