LPTD logoTRI’ING AND DU’ING AT LUMS POND

Everyone knows you can’t succeed unless you try and that doing is better than watching. That’s just what three Creek Road Runners did. CRR Jennifer Pyle and CRR Diane Kukich were part of a winning women’s triathlon relay, and CRR Dan Simmons won his age group (60-64) in the duathlon at Lums Pond. Dan finished the 2-mi. run—19.5-mi. bike—3-mi. run duathlon in 1:30:52, good for 40th overall. He averaged 6:13/mi. and 6:30/mi., respectively, for the running legs and kept an awesome 20.5 mph on the bike leg. Jennifer did her best impression of her husband (CRR Bruce Pyle) and sped through the bike leg at 19.8 mph, and Diane clocked a 21:02 for the 3-mi. run. Along with their swim partner, their team’s time total was 1:42:06, good for 4th out of seven teams (and besting two men’s teams). Congratulations!

HOT COMPETITION AT 4TH TOUR DE LANCE, TAGGART AND JORNLIN SHINE

Bob Taggart
Ann Jornlin

Over a thousand participants came out for the Wednesday, August 13, Tour de Lance 5K in Wilmington. Many of the area's best runners compteted. To give you an idea just how fast the field was, CRR Bill Rose, who took third in his age group (45-49), ran a 19:40 and finished 33rd overall. CRR Bob Taggart won the 65-69 age group in 22:09, and CRR Ann Jornlin won the 55-59s in 25:50. Certainly remarkable feats in a big field. Note: If the race had been scored like cross country, the men's 50-54 age group would have won, placing four runners in the top 15!

YOU ARE PROBABLY A RUNNER IF...

you’ve converted your marathon medals into a wind chime.
you consider running 3 miles to be a warm up.
you know the shoe store guy better than some relatives.
you drive down the freeway and think to yourself, “Hey, my car is doing 1-minute miles.”

Watch for more entries weekly.
