Trustees of Color
Darreisha (right) is pictured with Ruth Sokolowski, the Program Director of the nonprofit organization Trustees of Color (TOC), whose goal is to build better communities through diverse nonprofit boards. As Program Coordinator, Darreisha managed the placement process for individual candidate of color and the nonprofit contacts to ensure appropriate matches were made. Darreisha also spearheaded the set-up, collection, and analysis of evaluations given to the members of TOC to ensure the best services were provided. Additional responsibilities included database management, committee coordination, and newsletter formatting and communication.

Federal Highway Administration
Over the summer David Beauchamp worked in the U.S Department of Transportation under the Office of the Secretary of Transportation. During his time there, David researched federal grant laws in the Code of Federal Regulations. He also wrote policy memos and several internal newsletters on financial assistance. Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe
Levan Beridze worked in the Economic Rehabilitation Program (ERP), led by the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE Mission in the Republic of Georgia). He participated in the monitoring and evaluation processes of the ongoing projects in the Georgian-Ossetian conflict zone and the adjacent areas.

Washington Fellows Program
This summer John Collins served as a fellow in the U.S. Senate Subcommittee on Federal Financial Management. In addition to providing briefings and staffing for several Senate hearings, John conducted research to see what the federal government could do to conserve energy usage. Natasha Edwards interned with the U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) in Washington, D.C. She worked in the Human Capital office, analyzing human-capital functions. Some of her projects included the analysis of new employee–survey results, GAO's internship program, special early retirement requests, and GAO's honor award nominations. Pictured with Natasha is Jackie McDaniel, Director of the Analysis and Systems Center of the Human Capital Office.

Adam Milavsky worked in the Office of the Executive Vice President and University Treasurer at the University of Delaware, where he was given the responsibility of working on a wide scope of projects while also collaborating with other UD departments and outside organizations.  It was a great opportunity for Adam to improve his research, analytical, and interpersonal skills.

Ricky worked with the Newark Planning and Development Department and Downtown Newark Partnership to plan and organize special events, as well as to tackle land-use issues such as Newark's flood-plain regulations.

Tiffany Reed (left) is pictured with Dr. Charlan Kroelinger, Director of the Division’s Center for Family Health Research & Epidemiology, and Centers for Disease Control Assignee for the state. Tiffany’s major project entailed developing a patient-satisfaction survey tool of Division-funded Preconception Care Programs that help women improve their health and better prepare for pregnancy. Tiffany also conducted an exploratory analysis of the Assuring Better Child Health Development’s pilot screening program for developmental delay in Delaware.

U.S. Department of State
Jayson Schablik interned with the U.S. Department of State's Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs, Office of Press and Public Diplomacy (EUR-PPD), where his activities were literally determined by what happened in the world overnight. He described it as the best professional experience of his life—doing meaningful work in support of U.S. Embassies and Consulates around the globe, reacting to real-life crises in real-time. Pictured with Jayson is Jean Duggan, Foreign Service Officer and internship coordinator for EUR-PPD.

Maureen Nelson interned with London Grove Township, in West Grove, Pa. She worked on a number of projects involving the sustainability of the township. Her main tasks entailed assessing the energy use of the township building, reducing the community’s ecological footprint, and writing grants for energy-improvement projects.

Legislative Fellows Program
Working with Delaware’s State Representatives, other statewide elected officials, Cabinet Secretaries, and private citizens, Mark Stevens analyzed legislation, laws, and policies, drafted policy memos, and (in consultation with Representatives) managed the work of three standing committees of the House of Representatives. Mark served as assistant to the House Committees on Economic Development, Banking & Insurance; Revenue and Finance; and Housing and Community Development.

Fratern Tarimo directed the summer recreational programming for the City of New Castle, Del. His duties included recruiting, hiring, training and managing staff. Additionally, he was responsible for developing recreational activities for approximately 50 campers, overseeing all financial and human resources record-keeping, and conducting performance evaluations for six summer counselors.

Nemours Helath and Prevention Services
Pictured with Dave Nichols, Desiree Tubb worked for the Center for Children’s Health and Innovation at Nemours Health and Prevention Services. Her work focused on childhood obesity–prevention efforts with youth, specifically efforts through schools in Delaware. Desiree’s projects included assisting in conducting a policy scan, researching strategies to engage youth, updating fact sheets and success stories, and supporting the School Sector’s Annual Collaborative.
