Sussex Broadband Working Group
A representative from the Delaware Department of Technology and Information (DTI) will be updating the group on the State's current efforts and future plans for enhancing internet connectivity across Delaware. In other business, we'll hear updates on several broadband initiatives and continue planning a forum to highlight issues and opportunities relative to high speed internet access in southern Delaware.

Your Regulations and the “Takings” Issue: The Impact of Recent Supreme Court Decisions ("Planning 210")
Ever wonder if your negotiations with a developer could give rise to a takings claim? Under the Fifth Amendment, municipal regulations may, if they go too far, constitute a “Taking” for which compensation must be paid. This training program will provide an overview of Takings Law and discuss recent developments—including State laws and important cases decided by the United States Supreme Court from 2012–2015. This session qualifies for certificate credit in the Academy for Excellence in Local Government Leadership and the Delaware Planning Education Program.

Board of Adjustment Issues ("Planning 206")
The Board of Adjustment is an important quasi-judicial municipal body. This session will provide an overview of proper board composition; proper board procedures for conducting hearings and rendering decisions; variance standards; and an overview of appellate review standards for board actions. This session qualifies for certificate credit in the Academy for Excellence in Local Government Leadership and the Delaware Planning Education Program.

Creating a Flood Ready Community ("Planning 201")
This course reviews the multiple sources of flood risks to Delaware communities that can be addressed and mitigated through planning, codes, and ordinances. It covers floodplain requirements for municipalities and tools for adapting to flood risk. Sources of funding and technical assistance will also be presented. This session qualifies for certificate credit in the Academy for Excellence in Local Government Leadership and the Delaware Planning Education Program.
