State Resources

Bike Delaware
Bike Delaware advocates for building a more walkable and bikeable Delaware and for changing priorities in transportation policies and funding to create a more sustainable transportation system in the First State. Their website is also a dynamic source of all local news related to walking and bicycling.

Delaware Department of Natural Resources & Environmental Control (DNREC)
DNREC protects and manages the state’s vital natural resources, protects public health and safety, provides quality outdoor recreation, and serves and educates Delaware citizens about the use, conservation, and enhancement of the state’s environment.

Delaware State Parks
The Delaware State Parks website provides links to online news articles and stories about Delaware parks as well as information about special upcoming events and programs.

Delaware Greenways
Delaware Greenways leverages public and private investment for greenways and trails and catalyzes the development of policies and initiatives to conserve and protect open space, create livable and enduring communities, and preserve scenic landscapes.

Delaware Division of Agriculture
The Delaware Division of Agriculture website includes locations of farm markets in Delaware and information for planning a farmers market.

Delaware Department of Health and Social Services (DHSS)
DHSS works to improve the quality of life for Delaware’s citizens by promoting health and well-being, fostering self-sufficiency, and protecting vulnerable populations.

Delaware Department of Transportation (DelDOT)
DelDOT offers resources to provide safe and efficient means of transportation. In addition, the aim of DelDOT’s Safe Routes to School Program is to make it easier for children to walk or bike to school. 

Delaware Division of Public Health
DHSS’ Division of Public Health protects and enhances the health of Delaware’s citizens by working together with others, addressing issues that affect the health of Delawareans, keeping track of the state’s health, promoting positive lifestyles, responding to critical health issues and disasters, and promoting the availability of health services.

Get Up and Do Something
Get up and Do Something is a program of the Delaware Coalition to Promote Physical Activity and Healthy Nutrition.

Office of State Planning Coordination (OSPC)
OSPC provides publications and news regarding budgeting and land-use decisions around Delaware. Resources such as checklists are also provided for municipal planning.

WILMAPCO provides walkable-community reports, publications, and resources.

Active Living Network
The Active Living Network focuses on how the built environment, including neighborhoods, transportation systems, buildings, parks, and open spaces, can promote more active lives.

Healthy People 2010 provides a framework for prevention in the United States by providing national health objectives that are designed to identify the most significant preventable threats to health and to establish national goals to reduce these threats.

ICMA provides information on promoting active living and healthier communities in an effort to combat the obesity epidemic. 

National Recreation and Parks Association
The National Recreation and Parks Association offers information to support the advancement of parks and recreation.

ACSM American Fitness Index
The ACSM American Fitness Index is an evidence- and science-based measurement of the state of health and fitness at the community level nationwide.
