Law and public policy are inextricably intertwined. State, federal, and local laws and ordinances reflect the policy choices of legislatures and other governing bodies. The Institute for Public Administration (IPA) examines the legislative process, focusing primarily on state and local laws and regulations as well the activities of regulatory agencies. IPA monitors the impact of policy choices on the public and private sectors.

On June 6, 2008, IPA partnered with the Center for Comunity Research and Service to convene the Louis L. Redding Symposium, “Home Ownership and the Mortgage Meltdown.” Henry Cisneros, the former Secretary of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, delivered the keynote address. Mr. Cisneros discussed the current problems in the housing industry and the role that home ownership plays in enhancing a family’s social and economic opportunities.
