Impacting the Public

IPA’s leadership development efforts focus on building the leadership capacity of individuals—to help them become more effective in the various roles and activities in which they are involved. It is based on the belief that with training experiences and coaching, individuals can learn, grow, and change to meet the challenges of this new millennium.

Leadership Development Specifically for Women
IPA is involved in leadership development for women through the Women’s Leadership Development Program (WLDP). The program is targeted at women in state and local governments and has also been offered to women in nonprofits, in the private sector, and abroad. Based on the Conger model, the program is divided into three phases. Each phase is more intense and designed to help the participants on their lifelong journeys to more effective leadership.

Leadership Development within Organizations
This component targets both men and women within an organization and rather than providing a fixed training schedule, it is customized to meet the needs of the sponsoring agency and the participants.
Leadership Development Program training modules from both programs have been expanded into portions of undergraduate and graduate courses and have directly impacted others (e.g., “Leadership, Integrity, and Change” and “Leadership in Organizations”).
