Q.What attracted you to the University of Delaware? to IPA?

A.I was attracted to the University of Delaware’s MPA program by the opportunity to integrate professional experience with excellent instruction in the intellectual foundations of public administration. As a student specializing in state and local management, the IPA’s projects involving state and local government most appealed to me.

Q.What has your experience been like as a UD grad student working at IPA?

A.Working for the IPA enabled me to learn about public administration from several different perspectives. As a Research Assistant, City Council Fellow, Public Policy Fellow, and Legislative Fellow, I was able to bolster my educational experience in the classroom with direct exposure to the inner workings of public administration. Moreover, the IPA’s collegial and supportive environment facilitated my ability to explore a number of opportunities.

Q.What opportunities have been available to you as a result of your association with IPA?

A.In only two years’ time, I was able to work with a city council, a state agency, and a state legislature. These opportunities would not have been available to me if not for my affiliation with the IPA. For that matter, it is highly unlikely that they would have been available to me if I had attended a different graduate school.

Q.What immediate and future career plans do you have?

A.I will begin work toward a Ph.D. in Public Administration at the University of Georgia. Upon graduation from [Georgia], I will pursue a career as a professor of public administration and policy.

Q.Why would you recommend IPA to prospective students?

A.I would recommend the IPA for the opportunities it offers by utilizing a vast network of contacts in state and local government.

Q.What advice would you give to a student who is considering joining the MPA program/IPA?

A.My only advice to prospective students is do not miss the opportunity to earn an MPA at the University of Delaware. It does not get better than obtaining a highly respected graduate degree while gaining professional experience AND earning a stipend.
