Q.What attracted you to the University of Delaware? to IPA?

A.While the stipend and tuition were great incentives to attend the University of Delaware, the opportunity to gain invaluable experience was the most influential factor in my decision to attend UD. The combination of coursework in SUAPP and real-world experience and problem-solving in various IPA roles makes for a great stepping stone into a career in public service.

Q.What has your experience been like as a UD grad student working at IPA?

A.My experiences working for IPA have been eclectic. Having the opportunity to work in various centers only allowed the benefits of my experience to grow exponentially. From the Water Resources Agency, to transportation research, and Legislative Fellows the program has provided me a variety of exposure and experience that I would not have received at another university.

Q.What opportunities have been available to you as a result of your association with IPA?

A.Through IPA I have worked at the Water Resources Agency on municipal planning and governance; worked for the Delaware State Senate as a Legislative Fellow.

Q.What immediate and future career plans do you have?

A.Upon graduating I will begin a one-year fellowship with the Arlington County Government in Arlington, Virginia. The fellowship through ICMA [(International City/County Management Association)] will further strengthen my management skills, hopefully propelling me into a successful career in government management.

Q.Why would you recommend IPA to prospective students?

A.There is so much here to take advantage of—from education to practical experience.

Q.What advice would you give to a student who is considering joining the MPA program/IPA?

A.If you are looking for a program where opportunities will always come knocking and you are not afraid to take advantage of [them], I recommend that UD’s MPA program be given great consideration.
