Leadership Development Training Sample

Session 1: Introduction to Leadership
What are power, leadership, and management? How do they differ and how are they related? What is transformational leadership? What are the characteristics of effective leaders? A leadership scenario.

Session 2: 360-Degree Leaders (based upon the book by John Maxwell)
How can you lead up, lead across, and lead down? What is the value of 360-degree leaders in an organization?

Session 3: Myers-Briggs Part 1
The first commandment of leadership is “Know Thyself.” The MBTI is one of the most effective instruments in helping us understand how and why we do things. The introductive session explores the eight preferences and the significance of full type.

Session 4: Myers-Briggs Part 2
This session explores communication, type dynamics, and leadership. The order in which we use our preferred functions determines our strengths and weaknesses. While we tend to use our strengths, it is important to identify our weaknesses and learn how to access them at the appropriate time.

Session 5: Conflict Resolution
Using the “Thomas Kilmann” instrument, we determine what are our preferred methods of resolving conflicts. From there, we explore the value of using non-preferred methods and seeing how our Myers-Briggs functions influence our conflict preferences.

Session 6: Skills Development (a selection of skills that impact leadership development)
Change, Thinking Outside the Box & Creativity

Session 7: The Organization
Social Capital & Teams, Building a Learning Organization, Ethics & Personal Growth

Session 8: TBD
We’ll explore a topic not assigned at the beginning, but determined by the participants and the organization’s coordinator and done several months after the introductory program. After focusing on the basics of leadership development, the participants will identify areas in which they need additional practice and information.
