My name is David Beauchamp, and I am a native of Houston, Tex. I have always had an interest in government and how it functions. From early on, I was influenced by my father, who works as a city attorney in Houston. The political issues of the day, the formation of this nation, and how it functioned were all things that I wanted to understand in more detail. Although I did not as yet have an idea as to the capacity of which I wanted to work with government, the public sector was something that I had a steadfast interest with.
As an undergraduate student, I studied English, a subject I thought was broad enough to prepare me for a variety of fields. It wasn’t until shortly before graduation that I deemed the possibility of public administration as the route I wanted to take. After graduation, I decided to take off some years from school and gain some experience in the world outside academia. For parts of three years, I worked in various sectors of private industry. When the time came to look for graduate programs, the University of Delaware stood out because of its focus on state and local government. For me, studying and working at an institution that embodied my primary interests was one of the key factors in my decision to attend.
