Kiersten is a current senior undergraduate student majoring in International Relations and Spanish.  She is particularly interested in international development, and, by working as a Public Service Fellow and a Legislative Fellow through IPA, she has gained invaluable knowledge of local and state policy.  By doing research with IPA’s Water Resources Agency, Kiersten has been able to learn about the intricacies of watershed management and gain a greater understanding of how to connect research to practical policies.

Also, as a member of UD’s Sustainability Team and the student group Students for the Environment, Kiersten has had many opportunities to learn about the struggles that the University and the state of Delaware are facing in becoming more sustainable and efficient.  Through her position as a Public Service Fellow, she has been transferring her knowledge and love for the environment towards tangible research products, particularly pertaining to the effects of global warming.  Kiersten hopes to be able to use all her experience from IPA research opportunities and knowledge of Spanish to work abroad and help communities develop sustainability.

Global Warming’s Effect on Delaware’s Water Resources, Fall 2008

This current project is underway in order to research and examine existing studies in order to gain a more thorough understanding of the way global warming is affecting Delaware.  After the preliminary report, we will then determine what more research needs to be completed to further our understanding of Delaware’s water resource situation.
