Economic Development

IPA’s economic-development activities have focused primarily on projects involving the crafting of economic-development strategies and analyses for and in partnership with local government. In addition, IPA has offered presentations on economic development at events such as its annual Institute for Local Government Leaders.

In 2005–06, IPA worked with the Delaware Economic Development Office (DEDO) to prepare a Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy (CEDS) for Delaware. The Delaware CEDS will foster a federal, state, and local partnership to devise a unified economic-development plan that considers the unique needs and interests throughout the state.

Based on Delaware’s attractiveness as a place to live and work, as well as the increasing significance of regional- and local-level economic development in nurturing and developing communities, IPA is in the process of determining ways of expanding its current economic-development activities. In particular, IPA is interested in broadening assistance to the state and its local governments through its local-government training program and expertise in comprehensive planning. Such activities would address the importance of identifying factors affecting the long-term economic vitality of the state and its unique communities.
