Graduate Program Support

IPA’s primary academic partner is the School of Urban Affairs and Public Policy (SUAPP). IPA is committed to strengthening its support of the programs and services offered by SUAPP. Within SUAPP, IPA’s primary responsibility is to support the Master of Public Administration (MPA) program. IPA also provides regular contributions to the MA and PhD programs in Urban Affairs and Public Policy.

A portion of this strong support of the MPA program is evident in IPA’s management of the school’s internship program and the college’s competitive Legislative Fellows program.

IPA provides less frequent support to the MA and PhD programs in Energy and Environmental Policy, the Doctoral Program in Education Leadership, the Masters and Doctoral programs in Marine Policy, the undergraduate leadership major in the Department of Consumer Studies, and the BA in Elementary Education. Through SUAPP, IPA works with the Department of Political Science and International Relations in offering the MPA program and other special projects.

SPECIFIC SUPPORT
1. IPA manages the internship program in the SUAPP.
2. IPA provides significant support for degree programs specialization including:

MPA state and local specialization
MPA and MA specialization in urban and regional planning
MPA specialization in healthcare policy
MPA specialization in organizational leadership
MPA specialization financial management
PhD specialization planning and governance
Occasional support for the Energy and Environmental Masters and PhD programs
and Marine Policy graduate program
3. Student job placement and career counseling is carried out by IPA staff members on an
informal basis.
4. IPA currently participates in the student recruitment and selection, but its staff would like to provide greater support to SUAPP graduate recruitment efforts.
5. IPA provides 20–30 research assistantships on an annual basis.
6. IPA works with SUAPP in promoting accelerated degree options.
7. IPA plans to provide increased support for advancing information technology skills with students, staff and faculty. We will particularly concentrate on Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and web-based service for public agencies and instructional technology.
