 Infrastructure and Transportation
For the past several years, the Institute for Public Administration (IPA) has presented an ongoing series of public policy forums in which leaders from state and local government, the business sector, and the community have an opportunity to come together and discuss current infrastructure and transportation issues affecting Delaware. In order to assist Delaware’s citizens in meeting these challenges, IPA recently has sponsored forums and research that focus on several relevant topics that include:
 Sidewalks and Shared-Use Paths: Improving Mobility and Designing Transit-Ready Communities, a by-invitation-only policy forum that continued the discussion from the previous Sidewalks and Shared-Use Paths forum, with particular emphasis on designing, engineering, constructing, and maintaining for ADA compliance. Anticipating 2025 in Northeast Corridor Transportation: Aerial, Highway, Marine, and Rail Technologies & Linkages, a policy forum designed to provide a framework for policymakers, planners, private-sector leaders, advocates, and scholars to discuss, debate, and speculate on what can and should be done now in planning, policy, and research to optimize mobility in the Northeast Corridor two decades forward. Sidewalks and Shared-Use Paths: Safety, Security, and Maintenance, a policy forum to address the challenges associated with the planning and construction of multi-use pedestrian and bicycle facilities. (available as enhanced Podcast)
Building Inter-Metropolitan Rail Corridors, a policy forum to discuss the status and future of inter-metropolitan transportation corridors and the critical role of their rail components. (available as enhanced Podcast)
Mobility Friendly Design Standards Summit 2, a follow-up forum, held in 2005, to continue discussion initiated at the 2004 Summit and present recommendations for the state of Delaware.

Funding from the State of Delaware has made it possible for IPA to collect, analyze, and disseminate information that is relevant to both public- and private-sector decision-makers. Discussion at the forums, along with accompanying research and reports, provides a basis for understanding current challenges so leaders can develop solutions that best serve the interests of Delaware’s citizens in a timely manner.
