What are the characteristics of effective teams? How do you build collaboration? This workshop explores the roles we play and the relationships we foster to create collaborative teams. Teamwork is based on communication, trust, and valuing diversity. Participants investigate various work styles and determine how their own style affects group dynamics. Attendees explore how the management of power and accountability in teams can result in either the success or failure of the team. Participants analyze program outcomes to clarify common goals. They also participate in hands-on activities that can be easily implemented in the workplace. Activities include addressing hidden expertise, managing conflict, and fostering positive communication skills.

9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. | registration deadline TBA

Facilitation is a way of providing leadership that enables groups to succeed.  Facilitation skills are necessary for today’s leaders and are considered a core competency for most professionals.  Whether you lead a department, chair a committee, or serve on a team, you need to know how to run a successful meeting.   Running a meeting without a facilitator is like playing a football game without a referee.   While most meeting participants are focused on the content and outcome of a meeting, a facilitator is primarily focused on the process of the meeting.   This workshop will focus on the facilitator’s responsibilities in preparing for and running an effective meeting.  It will cover techniques to address difficult people and dynamics frequently seen in groups.  It will also offer strategies for working with diverse work styles and reaching agreements through a structured decision-making process.

This training leads participants through a variety of experiences to explore their most effective responses to anger and conflict. This workshop will also explore the five styles of conflict management. People are often reluctant to discuss difficult topics for fear of the consequences. Learn how to get to core issues within a conflict and find resolution.  Participants will practice raising and clarifying the issues, learn how to gather information within difficult conversations, and enhance problem-solving skills.  As a group, participants will discuss and illustrate how people “get stuck” in a position that is just at the surface, like the tip of the iceberg.  There will be an opportunity to role play and practice managing conflict. The training is an experiential introduction based on perceptions of conflict, community-building, cooperation, communication, and negotiating conflict in creative ways that work toward win-win solutions.
